Life seems to always be in a state of change—seasons change, temperatures change, leaves change! And we find great beauty in the differences, in the change. BUT, many of us might say, “we do not like change!” We want the same music each Sunday, Scripture read from the same translation, prayers prayed in the same way, sermons preached to our liking, etc. Why is it that we like the change of seasons but we do not like the changes in our lives? I wish that I had that an-swer. A book that reveals that secret would be on the Best Sellers List.

Even though we do not have the answer, change is something that we should talk about and work through. There is no doubt that church is different now than it was in 1975. This coming weekend I will attend my 50th high school reunion. No one will be the same. We have all changed. Some more than others. But the reality is life changes. So why shouldn’t the church change in our methods?

I want to challenge each of us (including myself) to con-sider how we might embrace change to make our services more appealing to the next generation. Can we discover ways that might encourage one another to consider change without creating a rift in our fellowship?
